Werner Herzog on Death Row

If you know me, you’ll know how worked up I get over death row issues. I’m absolutely against the death penalty and capital punishment, and always make an effort to keep up with any media posted on the subject. I had missed Werner Herzog’s interviews with prisoners last year and managed to catch up with them while doing the ironing tonight (which, by the way, is prime documentary watching time).

Do check it out if you too find yourself with a stack of ironing, they’re very well conducted and subject-focused. It’s not showcasing Herzog (as wonderful as he is) but the attention is really on the man seated in front of his fate. The first episode, featuring Hank Skinner, is particularly moving as his date of death was changed so frequently; he was told he could go back from his cell just minutes before he was due to be executed! You can watch it on 4oD here.
